29 October 2010, Fifa president Sepp Blatter: "One can ask whether such an action is appropriate, trying to set traps for people. It is a deeply rooted problem... Who is benefitting from this situation and who is being harmed, we are asking ourselves why did it happen and why did it happen specifically by English journalists? We are looking at that."

Blatter was referring to the 'Sunday Times.' The newspaper set a trap for Fifa committee members from Nigeria and Tahiti.

The Mail on Sunday wrecked England's bid to host the 2018 World Cup by secretly recording FA chairman Lord Triesman talking with his ex-girlfriend in a pub and then publishing extracts from the private conversation.

The Mail on Sunday had the audacity to blame Lord Triesman himself for wrecking the England bid in an earlier online version of their story - they switched their headline when his departure from the bid was announced: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1278706/FA-chief-Lord-Triesman-S...
